Hidden gems this week
Edition 44th: Make learning addictive, design portfolio of 2023, AI image generator that deliver incredibly real looking images
My friends often ask me: “Shivam, where did you discover this?”
I don’t know. I have a pretty non-linear way of discovering interesting stuff.
Sometimes, I encounter an interesting tool in communities; at times, it is Twitter or the randomness of amazing people I know. I have curated the people that I follow and the communities I am part of; maybe that’s why I can differentiate signal from noise. Curation is an art.
I guess I’m good at capturing interesting things that others might find valuable. So, I’ll share them in the newsletter in a new edition called “Hidden Gems this week”. Let me know what you think?
Let’s dive into the little gems of this week:
My favourite tool for AI image generation
Visual Electric has the best UX out of all the AI tools I've tried for generating images: simple, clean interface and great output.
➡️ Play with it
Design portfolio of 2023
Marco uses a genius tactic that anyone can steal to level up their portfolio,
has made a nice thread on decoding his portfolio websiteHow to Make Learning as Addictive as Social Media
Duolingo cofounder Luis Von Ahn explains how Duolingo uses streaks and nudges, paired with a feisty owl mascot, to encourage daily learning habits. “Smartphones come equipped with some of the most addictive drugs that humanity has ever engineered. TikTok, Instagram, mobile games. See, delivering education over a smartphone is like hoping that people will eat their broccoli, but right next to it, you put the most delicious dessert ever made.”
🚨 A new launch
We are obsessed with great typography. As a designer, you should, too, as 80% of design is about good typography.
Here's a sneak peek of a newsletter that Rahul Rao, Jahnvi Batra, and I are working on.
That will help you leverage your taste in typography and make your designs shine ✨
