Leverage yourself by using AI in your design workflow
My friend,
has been writing about using generative AI to design better and more efficiently. Sharing one of his recent editions on using AI to create wireframes in figma. Highly recommend subscribing to his newsletter. As AI democratizes design through prompt engines, "taste" will become a crucial distinguishing factor for designers. The ability to recognize and articulate what constitutes "good" design will set them apart.
AI will empower us to do 10 times the number of explorations we can do within a given problem space. Time no longer becomes the primary constraint. Instead, our ceiling is only capped by our ingenuity.
I'm doubtful that AI will replace designers within the next 5-10 years, but one thing is certain. Ignoring AI in your workflow in the coming years will render you obsolete, as generative AI will become a crucial tool for multiplying your output and exploration. Embracing and mastering AI will significantly impact your career as a designer.
Take, for example, the company CRED in India. Their hiring process includes a task requiring candidates to solve a problem using only generative AI. This reflects the industry's future direction. My intuition suggests that within the next 5-7 years, we'll utilise AI for various tasks and transition into curators. Our taste and product sense will become increasingly important, making it essential to harness and leverage AI effectively.
