Hello to 202 people reading this newsletter, appreciate your attention. Hope you find value here :)
I recently noticed a clear inefficiency in something that seemed fairly obvious to me, also validated by a poll I did on Twitter.
It's design hiring, both ends are messed up. Neither the employer (especially those hiring their 1st product designer) have an idea about 'what to' look for (seems evident from the JD) when hiring a product designer nor the candidate knows the tactics, right practices, and how to find the right match. I might be doing a small experiment in the design hiring with my friend, Paras. Lookout 🙌🏼
P.S. - If you are hiring or looking for a design gig, let me know below. I would love to help you.
I have good news, one of my mentees at Designlab got a job offer for a product design role at Starbucks! I love teaching and how satisfying it is.
One more learning, I feel I have learned more about digital product design by working closely with developers than just hanging out with fellow designers. When you see the tech constraints and adapt the design accordingly yet maintain the UX, it's challenging but worth it. Perhaps will write more about this.
